Carl Pettigrew was born on September 26, 1995, in Franklin, Wisconsin. Growing up in Wisconsin, Carl developed an early appreciation for the outdoors and the importance of being prepared.
As he got older, Carl became interested in survival skills, camping, hunting, fishing, and outdoor living. He began learning practical skills such as fire starting, shelter building, navigation, water purification, knot tying, outdoor cooking, and basic first aid.
Carl was particularly interested in understanding how people could remain self-reliant when modern conveniences weren’t available. He spent time practicing traditional outdoor skills and learning how to make the most of limited equipment and resources.
His interests eventually expanded into emergency preparedness, wilderness survival, homesteading, food preservation, disaster planning, and self-reliance.
Carl’s practical approach to survival led him to begin writing and sharing what he learned. He eventually became a contributor to Survival Boys, where he focuses on practical survival skills, preparedness, outdoor knowledge, and lessons that can be applied in real-world situations.
Carl believes that preparation isn’t about expecting the worst—it’s about being capable when things don’t go as planned.
